Welcome to the second week of Emerging Perspectives, where we highlight artists whose work we’ve been loving lately...
Alessandro Teoldi’s work caught my eye immediately—I’m always drawn to anything involving textiles, fabric, and weaving, so I am truly in love with his combination of oil paint, fabric, and pastels. Calla lilies, my favorite flower and an emblem of Down The Street, make the piece below (right) my favorite. Find Alessandro Teoldi on Instagram here.
Remi Ajani is a London-based artist currently studying at the Slade School of Fine Art. Her pieces feature mostly anonymous figures and faces yet feel incredibly intimate. She describes her work as exploring “her relationship to the interior and exterior world in relation to perception, reality, connection, and disconnection. Painting becomes a way to affirm existence and reflect on perspective” (taken from her website). Find Remi Ajani on Instagram here.
Farshad Farzankia, an Iranian-born artist raised in Denmark, is someone whose work I first discovered through his collaboration with La Cabra, the lovely café with a relatively new SoHo, NY location. For this specific space, La Cabra held a behind-the-scenes studio visit to showcase Farzankia’s creative process. According to the studio visit, he “has always been fascinated by how colours, photography, and typography combine to form magazine features, advertisements, and artworks.” Find Farshad Farzankia on Instagram here.
Danielle (Dani) Orchard’s paintings reference masters like Picasso and Matisse while drawing on her own experiences as a woman in art. Through a deeply personal lens, Orchard examines the complexities of nude female representation—a subject with a layered and complex history in art. Find Dani Orchard on Instagram here.
Andrew Cranston, based in Glasgow, is a “painter-storyteller” known for his works on the linen-bound covers of old books, where he blends layers of paint, lacquer, and collage. I particularly love his interior scenes (shown below)…
